Critique Guidelines

2022 November Fall Conference

A limited number of critiques will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

Manuscript critiques will be offered by:
Frances Gilbert, VP & Editor-in-Chief of DoubleDay Books for Young Readers
Rachel Orr, agent at Prospect Agency
Talia Benamy, editor at Philomel

You may submit fiction or nonfiction: one picture book (no more than 10 pages) or one magazine piece (no more than 10 pages) or the first 10 pages from a longer work for children including young adult. If multiple works are submitted, the shorter work will be critiqued.

Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced, 12 point font, with one-inch margins. Name and address must appear on the first page plus name and title on succeeding pages.

Cost is $50 plus registration fee ($115) for a 15-minute cnsultation/critique. 

Mail your critique fee, plus registration fee (separate checks, please) and the first 10 pages of your manuscript (or less) to Karen Orloff at the address listed on the registration page. 

Deadline is October 21, 2022 for critique and registration fees. 

Critique fees are non-refundable (unless the critique schedule is full).
